Gwen, you have always been a wonderful friend and sister to me going back to Taft Jr. High School. You where a cheerleader and I was on the basketball team. The days when we laughed together walking home from school. I remember the first time you made me sing in front of your mother and sister’s in your living room. I remember you being there encouraging me when I put my first sing group together at Taft Jr. High. It was that encouragement that made me really want to sing professionally and I did just that in the 80s when I went on tour with Stacy Lattisaw. It was your encouragement when I came to Howard University to market Retirement Plans. The first thing I saw when I walked in the door after 10yrs was your smile. Once again I knew I was ok because my friend had my back. You help me get my foot in the door. Thank you Gwen you will forever be my hero.
May God bless you and keep you.

Gwen you had a way of saying my nickname in a way that was indering and genuine. You were protective over me like only a Sister in Christ would display, your infectious smile and nurturing hugs were alway so welcomed people had to think twice before they got on your bad side because you were a pistol, there were a few who challenged you, but when I saw that finger start to point and that foot turn outward you were ready for action. Laughter with you was one of your strong suits, no matter what went on spending a short time with you made all the folishness stand still. Your spirit will always stay with me through your character and integrity that blossom and bloomed through many hearts,You are now in the Masters Hands I'm glad to have met you. Wanda Southerland (Taft Junior High)
